Bookkeeping & Financial Process

On schedule, every cycle. A CPA accountable for it.

Bookkeeping, payroll, monthly closes and tax returns for Ontario non-profits and small businesses, with one Chartered Professional Accountant accountable for the file from month to month.

Automation powers the work I do here. It never replaces it.

How the practice runs

One CPA, one file, and your monthly package by the 10th once onboarding is complete.

What comes with the work

What the practice covers.

I do the work myself

Every account I reconcile is one I am professionally and personally accountable for, as a CPA registered with CPA Ontario.

Process, not just entries

I map how money actually moves through the organisation and fix the gaps in fund tracking, restricted grants and payroll controls, so the books stay clean without you managing them.

Built for accountability

Boards, auditors, funders and CRA all ask different questions of the numbers. I build records that answer each of them, not just the one you thought of first.

Books kept audit-ready, month after month.

Registered with CPA Ontario

Every engagement is led by Sam Thandi, CPA. No staff and no hand-offs. The CPA you talk to is the CPA who does the work.

Non-profit & charity focus

Fund accounting, restricted contributions and charity HST are day to day work here, not a special request.

In the GTA? I'll come to you.

Engagements run remotely across Ontario, and in person for anyone in the GTA who would rather sit down and go through the books together.

Questions

Before you reach out

How long does onboarding take?
Usually two to four weeks, depending on how clean the starting file is and whether we're migrating from another system. Once onboarding is complete, the monthly cycle settles in and your package arrives by the 10th.
Will you have access to our bank account or pay our bills?
No. I have read-only access to bank and card feeds for reconciliation, and I can issue invoices and track what's outstanding, but I don't execute payments or hold bill-pay authority. That stays with you.
When will we get our numbers each month?
By the 10th, once onboarding is complete. Your monthly financial package (statements that explain the numbers, plus fund or programme reporting where it applies) arrives on the same schedule every month for as long as the engagement runs.
How much does bookkeeping cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the organisation. A straightforward file costs less than one with payroll, restricted grants, or a backlog to catch up. I quote a fixed monthly fee after an initial conversation, so there is no surprise invoice.
What software do you work in?
Primarily QuickBooks Online. If the organisation is on a different platform, migration is typically part of onboarding.
In a client's words
“Sam took the time to go through processes with us, to understand how we actually work before recommending anything. … I recommend a conversation with Sam at Lunar Accounting to any organization who is looking for an accountant who will take the time to understand them and build a system that actually works.”
